Mindfulness in Nature, Cognitive-Behavioral & Somatic Therapy

My approach with children and youth is unique: often I work with parents in the room (if the child is under 14) so that the parent can learn the skills I am teaching the child. This way, the presenting issue gets addressed both in my office and at home. Often, the problem is resolved just by intervening through the parent, when I have yet to meet the child.

I like to work with schools and especially teachers for school-based issues.

The most important intervention is helping the child or youth have a positive experience with therapy so that they see me as a support and resource rather than as an indication that “something is wrong with me." Afterall, needing support these days IS NORMAL. I’ve been working with some families on and off (mostly off) for decades.

  MINDFULNESS IN NATURE SOMATIC THERAPY

Mindfulness in nature somatic therapy integrates the principles of mindfulness, nature connection and somatic psychology to strengthen a person’s relationship with themselves through presence, self-reflection and inner resourcing. By combining the power of nature with mindfulness this methodology helps individuals learn how to regulate their nervous systems while processing emotions.

Nature provides a calming, expansive experience that can reduce stress, increase emotional regulation and relaxation, and enhance feelings of awe, connection and belonging. Nature naturally encourages mindfulness by drawing attention to sights, sounds, and sensations: this heightens awareness which enhances internal listening and attunement with body sensations and feelings—all fostering a sense of wholeness.
